In Dubio Abstine

I came across this phrase last week, and could instantly apply it to my life and the life of others around me. It means literally 'when in doubt, abstain'. This can be a motto for so many aspects of our lives, where the obvious choice is so rife with uncertainty, we need a glimmer of guidance, maybe a glowing path - or maybe a rainbow road- to see us through. As a friend of mine -who is in the dating world - said to me, " doubt is always a factor in the dating stage of any relationship ". I in turn told him that indeed there is always doubt, but there are many kinds of doubt. Doubt that a potential partner will be faithful is much different than the doubt that he/she is as good a cook as he/she says he/she is. The latter is trivial to the pondering doubt that will forever linger in the back of the mind of the 'partner of little faith' until it eventually wears the relationship thin. These types of doubts are the ones that could/should cause us to abstain...

Race of the Educated

If education is not a shackle what can it be? Because all a man needs is a job he can do with what knowledge he has, yet he gets stuck in a cycle of getting knowledge he will never use. I was tired of school 7 years ago when I finished high school, I was tired 5 years ago when I finished 6th form, I was tired 3 years ago when I finished my B.Sc. and I am still tired from all of that. But, I have to press on still, thinking M.Sc.’s and PHD’s almost 24/7. even thought many jobs have not become harder, like flipping burgers for instance, but yet they need freaking high school diplomas. There are many people complaining about the need for high qualifications to do menial jobs, I have to tell them ‘Imagine its your business, if you could get a college graduate to do the job and pay him at the same rate as a high school graduate, which would you prefer?’ . It is sometimes as simple as that, some markets are saturated with degrees in fields of low hiring and as such, these graduate...

Giving Some of 'Me'

I was never cut out to be one of those 'people' who are apart of everything, every club, every association and stuff. I have now found myself at a point in my life where I think this needs to change. There is no need in living life for yourself or without giving of yourself, cash , kind and time. People welcome gifts of cash and kind of course, but there are many people for whom a hour of your time would be more precious. So I have decided to start volunteering. Yaahhh me! I have found a worthwhile service project and I am now preparing a grant proposal to seek some funding. I have signed up a couple of forms and have tried to contact some organisations nearby. This year is the year for me to demonstrate self and help others. This year is teh year of Joedian, the volunteer.
